A little taste of the Texas Hill Country has landed in Midtown with the debut of The Dogwood Houston.
Dogwood is one of the bars in the stable of Carmack Concepts out of Austin. The Womack brothers run a series of lounges centered around the nightlife section of Downtown Austin, including the Dizzy Rooster and Molotov. Dogwood Houston is their first foray into the local market—and they’ve done it right.
Taking over a decaying former shipping services building, the team took down everything but a couple exterior brick walls and built from there. What stands now is a beautiful multi-story lounge packed with a series of bar tops and big screens.
An abundant beer menu of mostly Texas brews accompanies a Southern-influenced lineup of specialty cocktails. The Sweet Dixie mixes Deep Eddy Sweet Tea Vodka with lemon, Patron Citronge and Rasberries Liqueur. Or just order the Barkeep’s Whimsy and let them decide what to make you.
Setting itself apart from most other bars in Midtown, Dogwood also offers a robust food menu that’s far from typical pub grub. Try the pork belly fritter with refried beans and peach-mango relish. Or savor the fried green tomatoes with house remoulade. For happy hour, sample the shrimp and calamari ceviche for just $7.
