In recent years downtown has built up it’s reputation as a place to have interesting and unusual art experiences. Most of these experiences have been centered around Discovery Green, the large family-friendly oasis in downtown's Avenida Houston district. This month the fun continues with some truly unique experiences that are only here for a short time - but a good time.

Loop is probably the most exciting. Located on Avenida Houston, this free, family-friendly installation features 12 giant zoetropes that are categorized by CultureMap as “part art installation and part amusement park ride.” It’s difficult to describe but a must see and do for locals and visitors. The installation runs through January 6, 2019.

Take a stroll down Main Street and check out the Houston Downtown Management District Holiday Art Blocks installations on Main Street. From a gigantic gold shimmering “NOEL” to glistening gold trees, Art Blocks does Christmas in a new way. While you’re there, check out the new seasonal Marquee installation featuring Houston’s namesake, Sam Houston, sporting some killer shades. Bring your camera - you’ll want to instagram this.

The Management District is also continuing it’s Open House Installation in Sam Houston Park through the season. Step inside this historic house that has been remodeled to resemble a giant swiss cheese. Inside you’ll find Houston’s history in photos. Go in the evening and it lights up like a lantern.

These installations are just the tip of the iceberg. Every park from City Hall to Market Square and back to Discovery Green has a festive tree, glimmering lights and even outdoor ice-skating - a site even more rare than a zoetrope in Texas. There is holiday cheer to go around for people who want to share that special holiday snapshot.
