Located on Washington – in the space that was once Benjy’s – is The Classic, a modern take on an American diner that mixes mid-century modern aesthetics with simple and delicious dishes. From restaurateur Benjy Levit, the mind behind Houston favorites like Benjy’s and the growingly popular Local Foods, The Classic opened to immense popularity in 2018 and shows no sign of slowing down.

Walking into The Classic, the first thing you will notice is how open and mod it feels. The space has been revamped so it has a more airy, retro feel with a few standalone tables, banquettes, booths and counter seating available.

Going along with the diner concept, the brunch menu features classic dishes with the volume turned up. Under their “Brunch Stuff” section of the menu, visitors will find traditional brunch staples like the Soft Scramble with fluffy eggs, Hamachi, avocado, nori and spicy jalapeño, as well as a Breakfast Sandwich with cheddar and breakfast sausage, all on a doughy pretzel bun. Other diner-like menu options include The Classic Melt with Havarti, salami and cheddar, and the Blackened Local Catch with cauliflower “rice,” beef sausage and green beans.

When it comes to cocktails, The Classic offers brunch staples like spicy bloody marys, and mimosas with your choice of oj, passionfruit or white peach juice. There is also the One-Eyed Willy, a fun twist on a coffee cocktail adding rum, Kahlua and cream to their cold brew coffee. Don’t feel like drinking? Don’t worry, The Classic offers Texas favorites like Dublin Dr. Peppers, Mexican Cokes and St. Arnold’s Root Beer.

The Classic is open for brunch on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 8 a.m.
