The 48th Bayou City Art Festival will be returning to Memorial Park on March 29 - 31, 2019. Noted as one of the top outdoor fine arts festivals in the nation, the three day event will showcase the work of over 300 artists from around the globe. Tickets are reasonable at $12 online and $15 per adult at the gate.

This years featured artist is Julio C. Garcia, a 2D mixed media artist from Jacksonville, Florida. His paintings are inspired by his childhood in Mexico and his painting, “At Dusk” is the featured artwork of this year’s festival.

The festival actually happens twice a year, once in October and then the spring version which attracts over 20,000 people to meet with exhibiting artists and enjoy food and entertainment. The festival art is the main draw of the event, offering an opportunity for visitors to connect with a special piece to take home. There are a lot of other things that make the festival a day long event that you will want to spend several hours at.

The kids will be excited to participate in the several different Kids Zone booths that cater to the burgeoning talents of the little ones. After all, what is an art festival if there isn’t some face painting and art creation?

The adults will most likely enjoy the many food options and frosty adult beverages that they can sip while perusing the hundreds of art booths and listening to the entertainment provided by bands at the main stage and roaming performers that offer some performance art to compliment the myriad sculptures, photographs and paintings for sale.

Multi-day passes are also available for folks that want to make an entire weekend of it. Attendees are also welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets to relax on but don’t forget the sunscreen and mosquito spray; the event is on the bayou afterall. Sorry pet owners, no dogs allowed.

Parking can be tricky if you come later in the day so you may consider taking an Uber or Metro to the event. This will also allow you to enjoy some drinks  - which is always encouraged when buying art.
