Downtown

Barnaby’s has been a staple in Montrose and River Oaks for years, serving huge portions of favorites such as Danish baby-back ribs, Coronado chicken and Petaluma salad. The funky diner staked its claim to a Downtown spot in fall 2012, opening its sixth location on Market Square.

The narrow restaurant adjacent to Les Givral and across from Market Square Park offers the full menu you find at the other Barnaby’s locations, but at present it’s only open for lunch from 11 am to 4 pm. Barnaby’s, named for its founder’s sheepdog which graces much of the décor, is popular for its varied menu, which includes an assortment of burgers (we recommend the spinach and feta), Tex-Mex favorites and guilt-ridden desserts (the carrot cake and chocolate addiction must be shared to avoid a sugar coma).

Unlike the patios at its original location on Tuam and on Shepherd, the new Downtown Barnaby’s does not have much by way of outdoor space. But because of its proximity to area offices and Market Square Park, the restaurant is handling a lot of to-go orders.
