TexMex or BBQ?
That’s the beauty of Houston. You never have to decide. With the philosophy, “if a little is good, then a whole lot is better.” You can enjoy both.
Inner Looper or Outer Looper?
I am an Inner Looper
Favorite Annual Event:
RODEO!!!! There is something about Cowboy Glam that is amazing to me…must be the tight Wranglers.
Houston in one word is:
DIVERSE. From the food to the population Houston has become a melting pot of ethnicities, sexual diversity and economic opportunity.
What’s a Houston must-see?
Houston has so much to see and do, that just one place doesn’t do Houston justice. But if I had to pick one place as a must see it would be Reliant Park during Rodeo.
A must have?
A Houston must have is a western inspired shirt that is embroidered, from Pinto Ranch.
What’s the one (activity, place or thing) that you haven’t experienced, but would like to?
Kemah after Hurricane Ike, Kemah was hit very hard. Unfortunately I spend most of my time within the city limits (in the loop) of Houston. I would like to experience and see the new rebuilt area of Kemah Boardwalk.
What would you say is Houston’s best hidden gem? Why?
The Art Car Museum. This organization was started in Houston and, for me, is moveable art. I love to attend the parade every year and see all of the special cars that are created. When it is not parade time they can be viewed at the museum.
When I'm not being a philanthropist or doing makeup I am enjoying my neighborhood, Rice/Military. This area is the newest area to be developed in Houston. Washington Ave. is for the movers and shakers of Houston. Some of the best restaurants, clubs and lounges in Houston.
Houstonian that you admire the most?
Carolyn Farb. Carolyn has been through much in her life. I have had the pleasure to have met Carolyn many years ago and can humbly say that she is my mentor. She solely has given me the passion and the desire to use my special contacts to help better our community of Houston through fund raising. Carolyn has raised well over 1 billion dollars in her philanthropy career and would love to boast the same thing one day.
Favorite place to grab a bite?
Los Dos Amigos. Located on Washington Ave, this small authentic Mexican restaurant has been my favorite since I moved to Houston so many years ago. This establishment has been in business for over 30 years and reminds me of my grandmothers’ home cooking.
Best brunch in town?
Has to be the Cadillac Bar and Grill on Shepherd and I-10. Build your own Bloody Mary Station along with all you can eat Mexican/American entries and desserts.
Favorite Happy Hour?
Fleming’s steak house on West Alabama. Maeve has created a $5, $6 $7 dollar menu that is out of this world. 5 dollar drinks, and 6 and 7 dollar appetizers and steak entries. MMMMMM
