Helping the community is something we all know we should do more of, but who here hasn’t even considered it since we knew it counted on those pesky college applications? Don’t worry, I am raising my hand on that as well.  But you can help raise awareness and money for a cause by doing something as simple as putting one foot in front of the other.

This Sunday, the AIDS Foundation Houston, Inc. will be hosting their annual AIDS Walk, presented by Marathon Oil.  The 3k walk assists local AIDS organizations that are providing housing, food, medical care, and much more to the more than 90,000 Houstonians living with HIV/AIDS. This signature event, is the city’s single greatest response in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The AIDS Walk hopes to raise $600,000 that will directly benefit Houstonians living with HIV/AIDS.

Even with raised awareness and the discovery of PrEP, one Houstonian will be diagnosed with HIV every seven hours—that is 1,200 individuals annually. These statistics put Houston in the top 10 list of states with individuals living with HIV.

The day of the event, registration begins at 12 p.m., the walk kicks off at 1 p.m. and the festivities continue at 2 p.m. This year's Walk features live entertainment, great food trucks, and showcase booths from the many sponsors. Additionally, many bars, like F Bar, will be hosting after parties which is sure to make it a Sunday Funday to remember.

If you don’t feel like leaving the comfort of your couch, you can always donate online or fund raise as a virtual walker. But do come out this weekend and walk for the cause. You’ll be able to get fresh air, lose some of that holiday weight we are all still carrying around, or even meet the man of your dreams.
